Rankin Projected and Actual Release
MDOC labels its public field “Tentative Release Date.” It is the anticipated date after time computation, eligible credits, and other adjustments known at that point. It is not a promise. Actual release is the completed custody event recorded by the facility and responsible authority.
A Rankin County pretrial detainee generally has no fixed sentence-end date because the case has not reached a final sentence. Bond, dismissal, a court order, a plea, a trial result, or a commitment can change the path. A sentenced county inmate may have a calculable term, while a state prisoner’s projection belongs to MDOC.
Find a Rankin Release Date
First classify the sentence and custodian. A person at the Rankin County Adult Detention Center may be pretrial, serving a county term, awaiting transfer, or held for another authority. A state sentence belongs with MDOC even when CMCF is physically in Rankin County.

Mississippi Earned-Time Computation
The MDOC handbook distinguishes tentative release, parole eligibility, earned-release supervision, and maximum discharge. Eligible jail credit can move the sentence-begin date backward. Earned time may then affect the tentative result under the rules that apply to the offense and sentence.
Mississippi Code § 47-5-138 governs earned-time allowance and ERS. The statute includes eligibility limits and says a person on ERS retains inmate status during that period. It should be checked in its current form before applying it to a case. A simple “85 percent” shortcut is not a safe substitute for MDOC’s computation, sentence date, offense classification, exclusions, jail credit, and later adjustments.
Parole eligibility is governed separately by § 47-7-3. Eligibility does not guarantee a Board grant. MDOC Records reviews ERS eligibility, while the Mississippi State Parole Board controls parole decisions.
Why Rankin Release Dates Change
A projection reflects facts known when the computation was made. Later credits, sanctions, orders, eligibility findings, or holds can change the anticipated event or where the person goes next.

A location-change date is not automatically a release date. A move between MDOC units or into a Flowood program may continue custody.
Confirm Rankin Release Dates

Use MDOC’s current record near the projected date and confirm the completed event afterward. For a county jail sentence, request the Sheriff movement and court record. VINE Inmate Check can provide a custody-change alert from a participating record, but it is not a certified release transaction.
Release papers show whether parole, ERS, or another supervision status follows. A discharge certificate is stronger evidence that the sentence ended than physical presence in the community.
Rankin Jail Credit Meets CMCF
Rankin County contains MDOC’s Central Mississippi Correctional Facility, a reception and classification point. A person can accrue eligible pretrial jail credit at the county detention center, receive a state sentence, and move to CMCF while staying within Rankin County. Geography does not make that move a release.
The MDOC handbook says eligible pretrial jail time is deducted when deriving the sentence-begin date. The public detail then labels its output Tentative Release Date. Confirm the actual credit in the signed judgment and MDOC computation sheet rather than estimating from arrest and sentencing dates.

Read Rankin MDOC Date Fields
The official MDOC detail layout can show name, MDOC ID, date of birth, location, unit, location-change date, sentences, offenses, county of conviction, photograph, and Tentative Release Date. Each field has a different function.

A community-supervision location can mean physical release under continuing jurisdiction. A prison location means institutional confinement. Preserve the whole record rather than copying the date alone.
Rankin County Sentence Dates
A county jail sentence should be read from the signed judgment, not estimated from the booking date. Ask for the sentence, eligible jail credit, consecutive or concurrent terms, suspended portion, and any later amendment. The Sheriff’s record can show custody dates and the completed movement, while the court controls the legal sentence.
A pretrial person may bond out, remain held, receive a later order, or be committed to MDOC. Until a sentence exists, there is no sentence-end projection to calculate. Estimated bond on the current roster is not a release date. Likewise, a court hearing date does not guarantee physical release because holds and jail processing may remain.
For a completed county event, request the release date and time, disposition code, releasing authority, holds, and destination. That historic movement is the actual date. If the destination is another jail or MDOC, the person left Rankin custody without entering the community.
Request Rankin State Computations
When the public MDOC date is not enough, ask for the time-computation sheet, status and location history, eligible jail-time credit, parole or ERS documentation, and discharge certificate or date. Separate MDOC records from Parole Board decisions. The Board determines parole, while MDOC Records administers the sentence computation and ERS review.
The public Tentative Release Date reflects anticipated adjustments. Maximum discharge is the expected sentence end without early-release allowances. Parole eligibility is only the point when consideration may be possible. These dates answer different questions and should not be merged into a single “release date.”
Medical, security-sensitive, victim, juvenile, sealed, expunged, and other exempt content may be withheld or redacted. A focused request for existing computation and status records is more useful than asking an office to create a new explanation.
What Follows a Rankin Release
An actual exit can lead to parole, ERS, probation, another authority, or final discharge. Parole and ERS mean the person is outside ordinary prison confinement while state jurisdiction continues. Probation comes from the court. A detainer can route the person directly to another custodian. The destination field is therefore as important as the date when deciding whether community release truly occurred.
Check the release papers and location after the event. If the person reports to Rankin Community Corrections, the Pearl office is a supervision route, not proof of final discharge. A discharge certificate or satisfaction order provides stronger evidence that the sentence or supervision ended.
Preserve the date on the public detail and the query time, then compare it with the completed movement. If a projected date passes without release, ask MDOC Records or the case manager whether the computation, eligibility, discipline, hold, or court record changed. Do not infer a new date by adding days to the old projection. The responsible office must calculate and document any revised date.
