Rankin Municipal Release Paths
A municipal arrestee can leave custody before or after county booking. A city court may authorize bond or another release. Police may transfer the person to Rankin County Adult Detention Center for longer detention. Another authority may receive the person under a hold or warrant. These paths create records in different places, so “municipal holding” should not be treated as the name of a single detention building.
If release occurred at the municipal level, seek the police booking or custody entry and the municipal court order or bond record. If the Sheriff accepted the person, the Sheriff’s jail docket and movement record document the county stage. A county roster departure can also mean transfer into MDOC or another jurisdiction rather than community release. The destination field is essential.
Identify Rankin Arresting Agency
The official Rankin current roster has an “Agency” field. It can identify the Sheriff, a municipal police department, Reservoir Patrol, MDOC, or another source of custody. When a person is listed, save the exact agency, jail ID, intake time, and booking details. Those fields route the next inquiry, but none is an actual release date.
- Search the current county list and record its visible update time.
- If a match appears, capture the Agency field and jail ID.
- If no match appears, identify the city police agency from the citation, bond paper, or court notice.
- Ask the municipal custodian whether county booking occurred.
- Request the release or transfer entry from the custodian that physically held the person.
The roster’s 24-hour filter concerns recent intakes, not releases. It cannot be used as a same-day municipal release feed. A person released before county intake may never appear there. A person transferred to county custody may appear under the municipal agency even though the Sheriff owns the final county movement record.
Rankin Municipal Record Owners
Start with the event, not a broad request for “all inmate information.” Police own their arrest and short-term custody records. The municipal court owns its bond, judgment, and release orders. The Sheriff owns the county jail docket after county admission. MDOC owns a later state commitment. A receiving jurisdiction owns its own intake.
| Observed event | First record route |
|---|---|
| Released before county booking | Arresting municipal police and municipal court |
| Booked into Rankin County jail | Sheriff jail docket, release, and movement record |
| Bond posted on city charge | Municipal court bond record plus actual custody departure |
| Moved into MDOC | Sheriff transfer proof plus MDOC location |
| Sent to another authority | Originating movement record plus receiving-agency intake |
Ask for name, date of birth, booking or citation number, admission and departure time, release or disposition code, authority, holds at departure, and destination. Request existing records only. If a city and county both held the person, preserve both sets because they describe separate stages.
Note: The municipal court explains its order, while the holding agency records the actual physical departure.
Rankin County Booking Route
When a municipal agency delivers someone to the county jail, use the Rankin Sheriff path. Mississippi Code section 19-25-63 requires a jail docket that includes how the person was released or discharged and the authority for that action. It also addresses a receiving officer’s receipt when a person is delivered to the penitentiary. That entry is much stronger than noticing that a current row vanished.
The Sheriff’s Public Records Request Official uses the county form, a published submission package, and hand or U.S. mail delivery. The official route is Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, Attn: Public Records Request Official, 221 N. Timber St., Brandon, MS 39042. Fax and email are not accepted under the stated policy. A narrow request should identify the municipal agency and exact date range.
The Rankin County release-record search explains the full county request package and how court and MDOC records fit. Do not ask the city to certify the Sheriff’s later jail event, and do not ask the Sheriff to explain a city court order it did not create.
Rankin Municipal Court Proof
A bond release does not dismiss a charge. The court record can show the bond, plea, judgment, sentence, dismissal, revocation, or other case action. The physical custody record supplies the departure time. A “closed” court case or final judgment flag is also not a release code. Open the signed order and compare it with the holding record.
Municipal cases remain with the appropriate city court. Rankin County Justice Court is separate and handles countywide misdemeanor matters within its authority. Circuit and County Courts use Mississippi Electronic Courts for some files, while older or absent documents may still require the Rankin County Circuit Clerk. The Chancery official-record inquiry is not the criminal docket. A no-result in one system proves only that the search did not locate the record there.
- Bond
- A court-approved release condition while the case may continue.
- Dismissal
- A case result that does not state the exact time custody ended.
- Transfer
- A move to another custodian rather than release to the community.
- Detainer
- A request or hold that may cause delivery to another authority.
- Time served
- Satisfaction of a custodial portion, which may coexist with other terms.
Rankin Municipal Contact Method
No single municipal address or phone covers all Rankin city holding functions, and the research does not support inventing one. Use the official agency shown on the citation, arrest record, bond paper, county roster Agency field, or court notice. Ask that office for its records custodian and current submission rules. If the person reached county jail, the Jail Information Officer and jail line at 601-825-1479 can route the county stage.
Municipal holding record route
Agency: The arresting police department named in the record
Court: The municipal court where the charge was filed
County transfer: Rankin County Adult Detention Center
County jail line: 601-825-1479
Do not assume each city keeps a public roster or has the same retention and fee rules. Ask for its written public-record procedure and an advance cost estimate. Give a narrow range and the known agency identifiers. A city response that confirms transfer should name the receiving custodian when the releasable record supports it.
Rankin Release Geography Trap
Rankin County’s county jail, CMCF, Flowood MDOC programs, and Community Corrections office sit in one compact area. A municipal arrest can therefore lead to a county booking, state transfer, or supervised status without the person leaving Rankin County. Staying local geographically does not mean staying in the same custody system, and leaving a city holding room does not mean release from all custody.
Build the chain in order: municipal arrest, city custody departure, county intake if any, Sheriff movement, MDOC location if committed, supervision assignment if released from prison confinement, then discharge. Each step has an owner. The city cannot certify the later state sentence status, and MDOC will not contain an ordinary city bond-out that never entered state jurisdiction.
A detainer adds another branch. Delivery to another county, state, federal, or immigration authority is a transfer. Record the destination and check the receiving system. An ICE no-result or BOP no-result cannot be used to rewrite a municipal departure without case-specific proof.
Note: A person may remain inside Rankin County while municipal, county, state, and supervision records change in sequence.
Verify Rankin Municipal Release
The strongest municipal release conclusion uses two compatible records. Pair the custody departure entry with the court’s bond or release order. If the person went to county jail, pair the municipal transfer record with the Sheriff intake, then use the Sheriff release or movement record for the later result. If the person entered MDOC, pair the Sheriff penitentiary receipt with the MDOC institutional location.
Record web query times because current pages change. A missing name supplies a lead, not the event time. Preserve the agency name, identifiers, cause number, and date interval. If the public record is sealed, expunged, restricted, or lawfully redacted, do not reconstruct it from stale copies. Ask the custodian what portion, if any, can be provided.
The final statement should stay within the proof: released from municipal custody on a stated authority, transferred to Rankin County jail, transferred to MDOC, or released under continuing court terms. Avoid the broader claim that a person was free from every jurisdiction unless all relevant records support it.
